Description
During this session your child will explore what a dead hedge is, its value to wildlife and woodland management with the added benefit it can bring to humans in the way of forming an effective shelter from wind. We will be shown how to safely use hand tools such as axes and saws to make natural stakes that will form the support of our structure. From here we will use the brash wood from coppice clearing work to build our dead hedge. This will be a very hands on session so sturdy footwear, gloves and old clothes are recommended. Please feel free to leave or stay with you child but please ensure they are suitably dressed for the weather with a warm top and send them with a drink and any snacks they may like. We will provide a mid session snack of bread twists they can cook on the fire to keep our energy levels up and give us a chance to reflect on what we have learnt and accomplished so far.
