Description
During this session your child will learn the different types of shelters that can be built from from natural materials and what there different uses are before we have a go at these on a small scale model. Then we will move onto how to set up an individual and group tarpaulin shelter, learning about what to consider in the location, how best to use the natural environment and the knots used to make it a functional shelter. As part of the shelter we will require pegs so your child will be shown how to safely use a froe, axe and knife to make themselves a peg to put the finishing touches on their new found shelter building skills. We will finish the session with a small fire for marshmallows and a hot chocolate under a shelter made by the kids. Please feel free to stay with your child if you wish and make sure you are appropriately dressed for the weather and your child has a drink with them. Also if you would like to send snacks or a packed lunch there will be opportunity for them to eat.
